On May 27, 2007 Times 4 performed at the Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society, a serious Jazz & Classical venue since 1964. We were so impressed by their musicianship over a driving funk beat at the San Jose Jazz Festival the year before, we decided to book them for our Summer-Fall Jazz series. Times 4 held their own with the likes of the Christian McBride Band, Eddie Gale and Dave Valentin on the calendar. They performed both a concert set and a dance set that had an audience of all ages coming out of their seats. This is a tight, energetic group that has to appeal to a younger crowd who needs to shake their booty. |

This is a terrific recording, full of rhythm, striking melodies, and played at a lively pace. The interweaving between the musicians with the well-timed improvisations is worthy of special praise. A good blend of styles is apparent and the fusion of them at various tempos is refreshingly different and highly enjoyable. Well written, arranged, and produced this is quality playing with Musicianship of the highest order. Full marks to all concerned. |
